Learning at NOLAWorks

Introduction to safety in the wood shop, plus hands on learning of the use of the most common tools used in a woodshop. Our instructors will make sure that you leave with the knowledge and confidence to tackle your next (or first!) carpentry project. 1. "Get a Grip!" – Tire Diagnosis & Repair (2 hrs, $50)

   • Ever been stuck with a flat or wondered if your tires are safe?

     This hands-on workshop teaches you how to inspect, diagnose, and repair your own tires like a pro. Learn to plug a flat, read wear patterns, safely jack your car, and change a tire in minutes. Walk away with the confidence to handle tire trouble anytime, anywhere.

2. "Amped Up!" – Intro to Electrical Systems & Battery Troubles (2hrs, $50)

   • Dead battery? Blown fuse? Mysterious flickering lights?

     Electrical problems don’t have to be a mystery. In this class, you'll learn how your vehicle’s electrical system works, how to use a multimeter, and how to track down and fix common issues. No experience needed—just a willingness to learn and get energized!

3. "Keep It Rolling!" – Wheels, Suspension, and Brakes (2hrs, $50)

   • What keeps you rolling smooth and stopping safe?

     Discover what’s going on behind your wheels. We’ll cover everything from worn-out brake pads to squeaky suspension and sketchy wheel bearings. You'll learn how to diagnose issues before they become dangerous and how to fix or communicate them confidently at the shop.

A series of classes designed to be taken in any order that will take your DIY home maintenance to the next level!

1. Home 101:

   • Covers maintenance, the major systems in a house, monthly/quarterly/annual care to keep your new home and major appliances in top shape, filters and cleaning, and utilities.

2. Home 102:

   • Covers paint and coatings, touch ups to walls and floors, caulking for tubs, sinks, doors, and windows, patching drywall and what to expect inside New Orleans walls, and tips for unsticking painted-shut windows

3. Home 103:

   • Covers parts of the home plumbing system, special tools, water shut-offs, unclogging drains, slow drains, types of drain traps, drain cleaners and maintenance, fixing the most common types of sink drips, and replacing toilet flappers and fill valves.

4. Home 104:

   • Covers parts of the home electrical system, safety, special tools, test equipment, resetting breakers/GFCI, resetting garbage disposal, and replacing an existing switch, outlet, or light fixture.
